The last Roar: Death of Tipu Sultan- The Tiger of Mysore.

On the 4th of May 1799, the British army assembled around the fort of Seringapatnam, capital of the Kingdom of Mysore. The British army was supported by Nizam and Maratha infantry. The French intelligence, an ally of Tipu gave him a tip of ‘an eminent British attack’, they advised Tipu Sultan to escape the capital and live to fight for another day, Tipu replied, ‘Better to live one day as a tiger than a thousand years as a sheep’.

आप अजनबी हैं, नही तो ऐसा सवाल नही करते, ये सब झूठी कहानियाँ हैं, ये कहानियाँ भड़काने के लिए फैलाई जाती हैं, नफ़रत तो पहले से भी कम नही, ये बात बिलकुल सही है कि अंग्रेज़ बच्चों और औरतों का ख़ून बहाया गया है लेकिन किसी की आबरु पर हमला नही किया गया, ये हमारी तहज़ीब और रस्म व रिवाज के ख़िलाफ़ है, हिंदुस्तान से लेकर लंदन तक की अख़बारों में जो ये ख़बरें हैं; ये सब बे बुनियाद हैं!

Bahadur Shah Zafar – Convicted on 9th of March 1858.

Helpless Sufi King was punished on false cases of being a ‘leader of the international conspiracy to topple the British Empire’. In following few couplets Iqbal beautifully captured the state of an ‘old age’ in his poem ‘Abul Al Alama’ari’ – Bal-e-Jibril 163; reflects the grim last days of the last Mughal King.
